Jindřišská Tower tourist stamp

Souvenir Stamp in Henry Tower, Prague

Jindřišská Tower is a great point to add to your travelbook, because it is considered one of the iconic landmarks of Prague and is often appeared in photographs and postcards representing the city’s rich history and charm.

In my previous post about Vyšehrad I wrote about travelbooks and souvenir stamps. This post is about another place in Prague where you can add a new stamp to your collection. 🙂

A little bit of history

Jindřišská Věž (Jindřišská Tower) is a historic tower located in Prague. It is situated near the famous Wenceslas Square in the city center. The tower is named after the nearby Church of St. Henry and St. Cunigunde.

Constructed in the 1470s, the Jindřišská Tower is a Gothic-style structure that stands at a height of 65.7 meters. It served as part of the original fortifications of the city and was used as a watchtower. Over the centuries, the tower has undergone several renovations and modifications.

Today, Jindřišská Věž is a popular tourist attraction in Prague. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the city. The tower also houses a museum that showcases the history of Prague and its architectural heritage.

How to get there

Once you arrive near Jindřišská Věž, you can easily spot the tower and make your way to it on foot. It’s located in close proximity to Wenceslas Square, making it easily accessible from various parts of the city. I believe there is no need to explain on how to get to the main Prague square – Wenceslas Square. Please refer to metro/tram map to get here. And you can follow my drawn map to get to the Tower from tram station Václavské náměstí. 🙂

Where to put the stamp

When you arrive at Jindřišská Věž, inquire at the ticket office or information desk (1st floor) about the availability of a souvenir ink stamp. The staff will be able to provide you with the stamp and guide you on how to use it.

View from the top of Henry Tower

Do not be in a hurry to leave after you have put the stamp into your travelbook! The view from the top of the tower is magnificent, so be sure to go up 10 floors to see the center of Prague from this corner! See more in my Instagram.

What else you will find here

In addition to the amazing view, you will find a restaurant and a museum on the floors of the tower. Another amazing thing is that on the 10th floor of the Jindřiška bell tower there has been a new chime by Petr Rudolf Manoušek since 2003. The set of 10 new bells symbolises its predecessors: bells that were removed from this tower and then remade or re-cast. The only Mary bell survived all the others and is now part of the reconstructed interior. Its voice has become the basis for the tuning of the new bells, in whose play it will regularly take part. The Maria bell weighs 723 kg and has a diameter of 101 cm.

Enjoy your visit to Jindřišská Věž and have a wonderful time in Prague!
